Dear Fellow Business Leader,
Is it time to decide what’s next. In this letter I’d like to share with you the exciting opportunity for you to develop real wealth with minimum effort.
How can you grow? It’s natural to try and figure out what’s next. It’s also important to realize that the skills that got you where you are today may not be adequate to move you to much higher levels. Where the martial arts industry is 80% children, the martial arts fitness industry can be 100% adult. Someone who has had success teaching children may not have the tools needed to bring in the wealthy adult fitness market.
Instead of focusing on growing the same way in the past and adding additional expenses that must accommodate the same demographic, why not focus on a segment of the population who will ask the least from you and your staff and will work out at times when your school is normally empty?
Before we go on, let me give you a little background on my organization and myself and why I’m qualified to talk with you about the next steps in your successful studio.
You’ve probably seen our heard about me in several ways.
Maybe from my articles and cover stories in Martial Arts Professional magazine or Black Belt magazine. Maybe from when I used to run Cardio Karate for NAPMA and certified over 6,000 instructors, or from my speaking at the NAPMA conventions and the Martial Arts Supershow. Maybe from when I used to compete with the United States Karate Team where I won two world team titles and an individual World Kickboxing title. Or maybe you have heard about the not-for profit organization I co-created over 13 years ago, the Project Action Foundation, that has given away over $2 million dollars to martial schools to benefit at-risk youth.
Regardless, it may be helpful to tell you a little of my background.
When I opened my first martial arts school in 1983 at the age of 19, I focused on and became a World Kickboxing Champion - a goal I achieved three times; twice as a member of the World Champion United States Karate Team that competed in the W.A.K.O World Kickboxing Championships in ‘85 in London, England and in Munich, Germany in ‘87. I won an individual World Title in Palermo, Sicily in 1991 with an 8th round TKO of Bruno Copilglia. The teams I was on included some of the greatest competitors of all time; Steve “Nasty” Anderson, Troy Dorsey, Ray McCallum, Linda Dentley, and Jerry Rhome.
These team were also coached by some of the legends of American Martial Arts; Bill (Superfoot) Wallace, Jeff Smith and Joe Lewis. I’m proud to say I have a 7th -degree Black Belt under Mr. Lewis and I credit him with giving me the skills to become a World Champion.
I was fortunate to have opened my first martial arts school in 1983 because the next year the hit movie “Karate Kid” came out. I was fortunate because soon parents were flooding karate schools looking for ‘Mr. Miagi’. This was my first lesson on adapting to a changing market - going from a ‘blood and guts’ karate school to a business helping families.
I jumped into the family martial arts business with both feet and grew to a level of 500 active students, three full time and two part time employees, and generated $30,000 to 50,000 a month in revenue in the late 80’s and early 90’s.
For over ten years I enjoyed teaching children and their parents. Being involved with so many families and feeling like I was really making a positive impact in my community was my passion.
But after a while my passion diminished. I wanted to get back to training adults. I honestly got tired of having parents expecting so much of me and making me feel as if I were responsible for raising their children.
Running a full time family karate school was no longer a passion.
I had no interest in going back to a blood and guts/fighter type school and atmosphere. Plus, the market is very limited for ‘adult only’ martial arts.
So in 1996, along with NAPMA, I created Cardio Karate which was my first attempt to attract the adult market back into the karate school. We had great success. I certified over 6,000 instructors around the world to teach Cardio Karate.
The first thing I realized after launching Cardio Karate is that there’s a huge segment of the adult population looking for, and willing to pay for, real results from martial arts fitness training.
But, when fitness first came to martial arts schools in the late 90’s, many school owners were trying to be the next Billy Blanks. The aerobic-style kickboxing was just too hard for the average martial arts school to teach so many of the fitness programs were of poor quality and students rushed out the door just as fast as they came in.
The other challenge was that even a quality program like Cardio Karate didn’t give enough guidance on fitness. People would take my class then go home and eat a whole pizza and wonder why Cardio Karate didn’t work for them. I realized that the average adult needed more guidance in their fitness training than what a single class style could offer.
“There is a great opportunity in the fitness market for programs that fall between the no guidance gym membership and the overpriced personal trainer.”
This is why in 2000 I created The Ultimate Body Challenge (UBC). The UBC Challenge attacks all elements of fitness by combining fitness kickboxing (primarily on the heavy bag), resistance training, nutrition and flexibility. I have come to the realization that motivation is the biggest challenge for people when it comes to getting in shape. So we set fitness goals, put the students on teams and assign coaches. We even have a bodyshaping contest with Caribbean cruises up for grabs (at no cost to the sponsoring studio). In a short period of time my UBC program started to out-gross my traditional martial arts program. I also found it a lot easier to run. Adults come in, train and go home. No parents!
The classes are also much easier to teach. I can have a fitness kickboxing instructor teaching a fun and effective kickboxing class in just one month after finishing the 10-week UBC, not the normal 3-4 years it takes to get someone to the rank where they can instruct traditional martial arts.

I’ve since sold my traditional styled martial arts school and have dedicated my life to making the UBC programming the most effective and profitable martial arts fitness program in the world.
Since its creation, ten years ago, the UBC has gone global with UBC sponsor studios in Canada, England, Australia, Finland and of course the United States. We’ve also added additional UBC programming which include; UBC for Kids, a six-week kickbox fitness course for children between the ages 7 and 12.
"Children’s fitness training is the fastest growing segment of the fitness industry. With the childhood obesity problem that we have in this country you can not ask for a better and more profitable way to attack that youth fitness market than our six week kickbox fitness course for kids".
We also have a five week Guaranteed Weight Loss Course that focuses on nutrition and meal replacements for the 50+ baby boomer market. This program will generate additional residual income, even from students who quit training with you.
This letter is about you and finding that next step toward your wealth-building goals. Please answer these three questions:
- Would you like to start training adults again?
- ould you like to be able to add new revenue streams that don’t require picking children up from school and then caring for them?
- Are you ready to make a real positive impact on your financial future?
A good Martial Arts Fitness program can generate more income than any other program in martial arts while at the same time requiring the least amount of time, staff and cost to you. The adult market is begging for the same attention you give to your martial arts students but they just want to learn how to fight fat, not someone else.
My UBC Martial Arts Fitness programming has stood the test of time. I’ve consistently proven that there is endless opportunity for a well-run martial arts fitness program. Although we have a proven track record, we do not sit back on our success. Instead, we are constantly coming up with new and innovative ways to improve the UBC and generate more income for our sponsor studios.
Not since Tae Bo has the martial arts industry had such an opportunity. Fitness programming is where the martial arts industry will see it’s biggest future growth. The difference is this time the public isn’t going to walk into your place expecting to take an aerobic-styled class that you or your staff can’t teach well. The public is now walking in ready to hit the heavy bags, work the mitts, set goals and work with a team. You’ll now be ready for them with the UBC programming that will fulfill the needs of the fitness market and generate great income for you.
The market is ready for something different when it comes to fitness training. A recent news piece on the MNBC website talked about how 'boot camp' styled programs, like the UBC, are the new trend in the fitness industry. They concluded that one of the reasons is, “The public is bored with what the average gym has to offer and they like the camaraderie of the group.”
The UBC will be a completely new and highly profitable Martial Arts Fitness business that you can operate on vacation while your UBC coaches (volunteers) run your fitness program. We will teach you how to train UBC coaches who become your fitness leadership team and are more than willing and able to practically run your UBC program for you. The UBC requires a minimum of stress and time commitment once it’s up and running.
You are probably not the only school that has contacted us in your area, so don’t delay. You don’t want a couple of weeks to go by and then hear of another school or fitness center in your area promoting the UBC.
You can’t lose! UBC National will provide you with all the tools needed to make your UBC program a great success.

You are under no obligation. All I ask is for you to give me the opportunity to show you how you can create huge profits with the UBC.
